新型インフルエンザの流行で医療機関には患者が溢れる状況が続きました。都内のある地域の基幹病院も患者が殺到していましたが、院外処方せんを受ける門前薬局は閉局時間になると店舗を閉めてしまうため、当初はやむを得ず院内投薬で対応していました。病院側が「せめて患者がいる間は薬局を開けておいて欲しい」と要望したところ、会社で検討すると持ち帰り、後日「1時間だけ延長」の旨を回答してきたといいます。病院側は「患者が待っているのに、時間で割り切る薬局の対応は納得できない」と激怒したそうです。この話は厚労省にも伝わり、官僚の間で医薬分業の是非論まで飛び出す騒ぎになったとか。
同じような話は他の地域でもありそうです。薬局からすれば、薬剤師の手当てなど簡単に引き受けられない事情もあるでしょう。しかし、目の前に患者がいる状況で閉局してしまう感覚は医療人としていかがか、との疑問が生じます。薬剤師の医療人としての認知度がイマイチなのはこんなところにあるのかも知れません。
